PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
We are very excited to be a Positive Action School. Positive Action is a research-based program that we believe will benefit each student at our school. The Positive Action curriculum develops students' self-concepts and promotes total wellness, competency, and healthy lifestyles. The daily lessons are grouped into seven units. One of our standards implementation action plan goals is to have our students demonstrate respectful, responsible, and reflective behaviors. With the implementation of Positive Action in August, we are already seeing positive changes in our school. We have scheduled an assembly at the end of each unit to recognize students for their positive actions.

Literacy is another area of focus. Through our Title I Federal funds we have trained part-time teachers in Corrective Action and Reading Mastery and created a Literacy Lab to help students improve in reading. Our classroom teachers work diligently to provide standards-based instruction for all students.

We believe that it is important to work cooperatively with our parents and community. Our SCC and PTSA are active parent groups and we welcome all who are interested in sharing your ideas with us. We are pleased to have the many partnership projects. Our Marine Corps Base Hawaii Windwalkers have donated many hours of service to our school. We have also been the recipient of several Eagle projects with Boys Scout of America troops in our community, such as the trimming of the hau trees, re-aligning our fence, widening our sidewalks, planting a garden, putting in a sprinkler system, and donating benches for our school. We also have partnerships with the University of Hawaii and Brigham Young University in their Masters of Education in Teaching Program and Student Teaching programs.

We are looking forward to a great school year!
